If apps like Zoom, Teams, or Chrome won’t open, load, or respond, don’t worry; this is usually simple to fix. Follow the steps below to get your apps working again.
Quick Steps
- Restart your laptop (fixes most app issues).
- Force close the stuck app in Task Manager.
- Restart the app and try again.
- Update Windows for app compatibility fixes.
What You'll Need
- Your Windows laptop
- Charger connected
- Wi-Fi connection
Step 1: Restart Your Laptop
A restart clears stuck apps and refreshes your system. This fixes most “apps won’t open” issues.
Step 2: Force Close the App in Task Manager
Sometimes the app is running in the background but frozen. Force closing it allows it to start fresh.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Look for the app (Zoom, Teams, Chrome, etc.).
- Click the app > choose End task.

Note: Only close apps. Don’t end any background processes or anything with “Windows,” “System,” or “Service” in the name.
Step 3: Reopen the App
After force closing, try opening the app again. It should launch normally.
Step 4: Check for Windows Updates
Updates often include fixes for apps that freeze or won’t open.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install everything available and restart.
