Reset (Keep My Files) — HP Laptop
Use Reset (Keep my files) to keep personal files while resetting your device. Apps and settings will be removed.
Before You Start
- Back up any important files before starting the reset.

Important:
On school-managed laptops, starting Reset this PC from inside Windows may require administrator approval. If you are unable to start the reset from Windows, use the Windows Recovery Environment / WinRE method below.
From Windows Recovery Environment / WinRE
Important:
To use Keep my files, use the Windows Recovery Environment / WinRE restart method below.
HP Sure Recover will remove locally saved data.
- Make sure the laptop is plugged into power.
- Turn the laptop on.
- As soon as Windows begins loading, press and hold the Power button until the laptop shuts off.
- Repeat this process three times.
- On the next startup, Windows should open Preparing Automatic Repair or the Windows Recovery Environment.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Troubleshoot → Reset this PC.
- Choose Keep my files.
- Select Cloud download or Local reinstall → follow prompts.

Important:
If you are prompted to enter a recovery key, please stop and contact Student Technology Services (STS). This means the device is protected with BitLocker, and STS will need to assist you with the reset.
