Keep Windows secure and running smoothly by checking for updates regularly. This guide shows how to find, download, and install updates on Windows 11 and Windows 10.
1. Open Windows Update
Windows 10: Select Start → Settings (Windows + I) → Update & Security → Windows Update.
Windows 11: Select Start → Settings (or press Windows + I) → Windows Update.

2. Check for updates
Click Check for updates. If updates appear, choose Download & install.

3. Install and restart
When prompted, select Restart now or Schedule the restart to finalize the updates.

4. Confirm you’re up to date
Return to Windows Update. You should see You’re up to date with the last checked time.

5. If updates fail
- Make sure you’re online and have disk space available.
- Windows 10: Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot → Additional troubleshooters → run Windows Update.
- Windows 11: Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → run Windows Update.
