Chromebook camera not working during class?
If your teacher or classmates can’t see or hear you during a video call, your Chromebook may be blocking the camera or microphone by mistake. Here's how to fix that in just a few simple steps.
Step-by-Step: Make Sure Your Camera or Microphone Is Allowed
Step 1: Open Chrome
Click the Chrome icon.
Then click Chrome from the taskbar to open it.

Step 2: Open Settings
- In the top-right corner of Chrome, click the three dots (⋮).

- From the menu that pops up, click Settings.

Step 3: Go to Privacy Settings
- Scroll down and click Privacy and security.

- Then click Site settings.

Step 4: Choose Camera or Microphone
- Scroll until you see Camera or Microphone (choose the one you’re having trouble with).
- Click on it.

Step 5: Make Sure Access Is Allowed
Make sure it says: "Sites can ask to use your camera" (or microphone) is turned ON.

Step 6: Check the Blocked Sites List
- Scroll down to "Not allowed to use your camera (or microphone)".
- If you see the website you’re trying to use (like Campuswire or Zoom), do this:
- Click the name of the site.
- Find the camera or microphone setting.
- Change it to "Allow".
Tip:
After making these changes, close and reopen your video app (like Campuswire or Zoom) to see if it works now!
Still Not Working?
Try these quick fixes:
- Restart your Chromebook (turn it off and back on)
- Open the Camera app to test if your camera works
- Try another website (Zoom or Google Meet)
